Herbs have been around for centuries the Indians used them, people heading west have used them and people today use them for healing. Herbs can be a Root, Plant, Seed, berry or Flower. Here are a few herbs use for home remedies for different situations.

Addiction to Alcoholism

Alcoholism is a very bad and powerful addiction. Most people can kick the habit, but some can not in reading about herbs I came across some information. Research suggest that Kudzu, considered an invasive weed in the South, can help to dampen the desire to drink. There is strong evidence to suggest that Kudzu acts as a liver tonic, increasing it's ability to fight off toxins.

Most of the herbs talked about will help the recovery process by supporting and healing the liver, detoxifying the body. One of the best and respected herbs that protects the liver is Milk Thistle. The silymarin that is in the seeds acts to help the liver better eliminate toxins including alcohol. Traditional Chinese Medicine they have used Reishi Mushrooms as a tonic to prevent " fatty - liver " and cirrhosis due to alcohol abuse

Passionflower is an herb used to treat nausea and vomiting, when there is withdrawal from Vicodin, Cocaine, Herion or opiate painkillers and may help withdrawal from alcohol. There are other herbs used for the treatment of Alcohol and drug abuse, they are Dandelion root, ginseng, skullcap.

If you are a Smoker!

Smoking is also a bad addiction, herbs can help relieve some of the tension, depression and stress that goes with trying to quiet smoking, but the real power lies within your self. Some other herbal stop smoking remedies can help fix the damage done to the lungs and help remove carcinogens and provide non - harmful tobacco substitutes.

Trying to ease the Stress

Green Oats ( oatstraw ) can help with panic attacks and are useful when trying to quiet smoking by reducing the carving to smoke. some other herbs that can be use are Colt's foot, Garlic, Licorice Root, Mullein flower Oil, etc.

Cellular regeneration is the key to youthful skin and nutrients, proteins in essential oils help to maintain collagen. And the regeneration of new skin. Herbs can help slow down the advancement of wrinkles, crows feet and frown lines naturally.

Here are some herbs used for Face and Skin Care : Aloe Vera Gel, Apple Vinegar, Basil Herb, Boswellia, ( Frankincense ) Carrot Seed, Chamomile, Flower Oil, Coconut oil, Jasmine, Rose, etc.

Herbs and First Aid

The first and most important thing is to have common sense, and make a good judgement call that the situation doesn't need Medical attention, then dive right into your stash of herbal medicine box for those home remedies.

Every day life is full of bruises, bumps, and minor injuries. This why we have so many home and herbal remedies, that we have passed down from person to person though out the years. some of these herbs that you can us for a sprain, bruises is an external application of Arnica this is most often used for these types of injuries.

Toothache or Earache

If you or some one you know is suffering from an earache or toothache, a hot or cold herbal compress can help save the day. To make a simple compress fill a small muslin pouch with chamomile or lavender flowers, heat in the microwave, or in hot water and apply to the area that is swelling. Also keeping clove oil on hand will help to, because a couple drops on a painful tooth can do wonders.

Use these steps to take the sting out of rashes from poison ivy, poison oak and insect bites and prevent infection. jewelweed vinegar, alcohol, witch hazel are good drying agents as a base for your herbal home remedies. Make a infusions of mucilage - containing anti - inflammatory, astringent herbs like Yarrow, Mullein, Oatmeal, Aloe, Flax seed, Comfrey, Calendula, Jewel weed, or Plantain, by soaking it for an hour in hot water or vinegar. You can add antiseptic oils to your infusions to boost their germ killing. To draw poison out of bites and rashes add your herbal infusion to green clay or oatmeal. smear it on repeatedly. when dry gently remove.

I love home remedies and try to use them instead of other medicines. My husband recently had a toothache and clove oil was the only thing that eliminated the pain. Thank you for your helpful suggestions!

Wow, this is a great hub, thank you for sharing it. I have a passion for herbs, and think they are truly wonderful. I think they are highly undervalued in a world that tends to ingest too many chemical medicines, more than we need anyway. This information seems like it would be great help for people struggling with the issues you mention. Wonderful!
